Most of you will be wondering from where Chrome OS can be downloaded and how it can be  installed. Chrome OS is the latest warrior from Google empire to the tech arena. Its basically a web browser that runs your entire computer so its not that big like the Microsoft OS s. Its  GUI is just like the Chrome Web browser.

Installing the OS to a PC consumes a very little time and I recommend installing it inside your present OS using Virtual Box. Its a powerful x86 and AMD 64 / intel 64 virtualization product that works on Mac , Windows, Linux etc. For installing the OS you need the following files :

ChromiumOS Cherry – http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/

VirtualBox – http://www.virtulabox.org

Now follow the steps explained below to install the OS clean :

  • Install Virtual box
  • Extract the the image file (*.img)  of the OS from the ChromeOS-Cherry.tar.gz
  • Open up a command prompt in the folder where you have extracted the image file.
  • Type ” path=c:\program files\sun\virtual box\”  ( without quotes) to point to your Virtual Box installation folder.
  • Now type “vboxmanage covertdd ChromeOS-Cherry.img ChromeOS-Cherry.vdi” ( without quotes) to convert the file to .vdi format.

  • Open up Virtual Box program and create a new virtual machine.
  • Select ” other” option from the two drop down list for Operating system and version.

  • Set the memory to at least 300MB.
  • In the following option set ” Use existing hard disk ” option and point to the *.vdi file of the OS  just created.
  • Click finish and click on the start button of the virtual box to launch the OS.

  • Type your Google account user name and password to login to Chrome OS & enjoy!
